Frequently Asked Questions and Answers regarding Migrating to Australia

1) How long is the PR application process?
The time it takes to process varies but a permanent residency visa should be processed in a period of about 1 year.

2) Once I get my Permanent Residence to Australia, do I have to take up residence in Australia immediately?
Once a Visa is issued, you have 5 years to decide to take up residency. You have to be there 2 out of the 5 years cumulatively for the visa to be renewed for another 5 years.

3) If the visa is issued for the entire family, does it mean the entire family has to move to Australia?
Only one member of the family needs to be in Australia which means your child may benefit from the education and health benefits which Permanent Residents are entitled to.

4) Why should I choose Ho Pak Kin and Vincent Koh from Australia Immigration Consultants to represent me in my application?
Pak Kin and Vincent have first hand experience in moving to Australia and New Zealand as immigrants and as Asians, they would be able to better understand the requirements of Asian Clients.

They also have extensive networks to Australian schools, local ethnic community groups, real estate and employment agencies to assist new immigrants to assimilate and start enjoying the Australian lifestyle.

Pak Kin, our immigration specialist and principal consultant is a Registered Migration Agent (MARN 0640302) with the Australian Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA) and he is based in Singapore. He personally oversees all of our clients’ cases ensuring that you will get professional advice and quality service.

Registered Migration Agents are required by Australian law to abide by the Code of Conduct and other requirements. These requirements include:

  • RMAs are required to attend postgraduate courses in immigration law and pass an examination conducted by MARA before they can be registered. This ensures that you are dealing with a trained professional with a thorough knowledge of all aspects of Australian immigration laws.

  • RMAs are required to keep their knowledge up-to-date by attending continuing professional development courses every year and are required to maintain a library of all migration acts, regulations and related information. They are also given access to the Procedure Advice Manual (PAM), which the Department of Immigration officers use in deciding an application. This ensures that you are always given the most up-to-date and accurate advice.

  • Clients who are not happy with the service provided by a RMA can seek a recourse with MARA. This ensures that you are provided with professional advice and quality service of the highest standards.

5) Why do I have to sign up now when I qualify? Can I wait?
Australia immigration laws changes regularly. The entry requirements usually get more stringent such as the increase in the number of points required to pass. (Previously 110 points has been moved up to 120 points for the skilled independent visa)

In addition, occupations which are in demand and given additional points may no longer be in demand once the quota for these occupations have been filled.

Moreover, the cut off age for the prospective migrants is 44 years and below for the skilled migrant category. Prospective migrants who are below certain age thresholds will receive higher points.

Therefore, it is critical that you apply for the Permanent Residency when you qualify.
